This week Outram entered its first Dunedin schools Volleyball tournament (1 boys team, 1 girls team). The teams were nervous going into their first games. After both teams winning their first matches easily the nerves soon turned into confidence!
Both teams went through the tournament unbeaten, winning 6 games in a row!
The highlight for the boys team was demolishing John McGlashan College 23-12. The highlight for the girls team was beating St Hildas College 18-4.

We went to Carisbrook excited and ready to play. We had qualified after winning the Taieri Schools tournament. We knew it would be hard but none of us knew just how hard it would turn out to be. There were teams from all around the Otago region! We easily got through the round robin series (3 games) that lead us to the semi finals. We won the semi final comfortably and qualified for the final against Millers Flat. This was a realy big game and we needed to win, the year 3 &4 team had already won their grand final against Clyde 7 to 9. In the end we beat Millers Flat 6 to 3. We are now Otago Regional Champions.

Congratulations to the whole teams from us all!!!

Yesterday we took delivery of the new LCD screens that we have purchased for the classrooms. They are 42″ and connect directly to the teachers laptops. Room 6 were the very first to use one this afternoon to share the videos from YouTube they were watching looking at our Challenge at the moment of “Curiosity and Wonderment” The children watched a video from John Glenn who was one of the first men to walk on the moon 40 years ago this week.
The children in this picture are discussing how they can show that they are exhibiting that Challenge. You can see the screen with the movie they have just watched. The TV’s are SOO much better than a projector as they are bright, clear and can be used in a well lit room.
We also had a visit today from Disa McLean our ICT PD Cluster facilitator. Many of the teachers were released to work with her looking at ways we can incorporate just this sort of technology into our classroom programmes. If you look at the sidebar of this site you will see links to all the different online places classes are using to support their programmes.

Our Outram School rugby team is in the finals of the school competition! YAY! We are very proud of our team. Many of the children are not experienced rugby players and there are quite a few girls playing in the team as well.
The final is next Wednesday and we were hoping to take the whole school to watch the team play at Carisbrook. It would be very cool to have the whole school cheering them on from the grandstand or terrace. Trouble is our game is due to finish so late there would not be time to get back to school to meet the school busesandd get everyone home on time. A real shame!
Oh well – best of luck to the team even without us being there to watch. GO OUTRAM!!

The Outram team has played 2 matches in the ORFU 10’s competition and has had 2 big wins. Last week we played Abbotsford and won the game 72-5. This week the team came up against Fairfield and won the game 77-0. The team were runners up last year and this year are looking at going all the way.
Players to stand out in the first 2 games are Daniel G with his committed running and huge boot, Sam Y driving hard in the forward exchanges and Jordan B working tirelessly in the forward pack.
Our next game is against Brockville at Brockville.

The cross country that was to be on tomorrow afternoon has been postponed until next week (Wednesday afternoon and with all the sam organisation). This is because while the weather has finally cleared up the ground conditions are terrible on the paddocks we use. There is a notice about this coming home today.

Our Rippa Rugby teams did VERY well in the recent Taieri competitions. We had two firsts and a second. The Y3/4 and Y5/6 teams will even get to play on Carisbrook in a few weeks! How cool is that!
Here they all are:

On Tuesday our Yr 7/8 touch teams played in the Otago Schools touch tournament held at the Kensinston Oval. The Outram Blues ended up winning the tournament beating Balmacewen Intermediate 6-1 in the grand final. What made this amazing was the fact the team only had one girl and boy sub and the team played total of 180 minutes of touch! The team now has played four seasons without losing a game.
The results were as follows:
vs Kaikorai Valley Gold 16-0 win
vs Arthur St 15-2 win
vs Kaikorai Red 7-4 win
vs Balmacewen Black 5-3 win
Semi vs Balmacewen Black 6-3 win
Final vs Balmacewen Silver 6-1 win
