Vision

Our Vision

With our help, students must build strong foundations for their personal square. Inside this square, we guide them as they develop and organise a host of skills. But our most special challenge is to create an environment in which students grow powerful enough to burst outside the square. If we are successful, they will enter a galaxy of lively thinking, dreams and visions.

The Background

At the Primary level, the curriculum is designed to teach fundamental language and numeracy skills and generally it promotes doing this in a conventional, efficient and well-monitored way. Science, Technology and Social Studies are useful vehicles for applying these skills whilst providing general knowledge of the world around us. As teachers and educators we choose the contexts that will develop the skills important in solving problems and in developing critical and creative thinking, fundamental to the long-term ‘success’ of the child.

In spite of out efforts, the flights of imagination and passionate explosions of ideas that are so motivating and empowering to children are not so easily triggered in this conventional classroom environment. When these flights and explosions happen they lift a student’s personal benchmark, bringing feelings of excitement, motivation and mental and physical aliveness.  Genuine Inquiry which, in time, can become the norm.

Our very important educational mission is to make these fireworks happen. Our chance of success increases if we generate a wealth of lively and accessible learning contexts. Providing a rich mix of contexts acknowledges the notion of different individual learning styles and capitalizes on the natural curiosity of children. These contexts may be found in many areas including technology, the creative arts and physical activity. Both inside and outside the classroom, they have the potential to provide the ingredients in an exciting recipe for applying knowledge, discovering talents and aptitudes and triggering individual enrichment. For the student, this super-stimulating environment is characterised by an intangible aura of ‘possibilities’ and a hinting of new horizons. This hinting – wherever they are lucky enough to find it – is one of the most exciting, motivating aspects of life.
